The school year just ended in Madagascar. During the long school holidays, Télécoms Sans Frontières participates in the activities organized by our local partner, the Alabri centre, with digital workshops every morning from August 13 to 24.
As part of our bridging the digital divide programme, children between the ages of 7 and 13 benefit from an introduction workshop to computer science and programming through playful animations on tablets.
A first group of participate in basic digital activities in order to get familiar with the digital tools through board games, colouring and storytelling in Blink book, creating a digital comic with Comic Strip It or 3D colouring with Quiver.
A second group, more advanced, participate in a technical skills club to acquire the basic concepts and thought processes of computer programming. The notions of procedures, instructions, loops, blocks, and parameters are explained by LightBot Hour Coding and Scratch progressive difficulty applications; then they are put into practice with the mBot robot.
In 2012, with the support of the NGO IT Cup, TSF set up the first cyber café with the only access to broadband internet in Miarinarivo, thus participating in the development of the region through the introduction of digital tools and extracurricular activities. The aim is also to apply digital tools to other sectors of activity that are essential for the inhabitants, such as for agriculture, data collection and cartography.
