Nour, 56 Y.O., from Aleppo, Syria
“I have been in Idomeni for 2 and a half months with my husband and 3 children. Thanks to TSF I was able to speak to my brother and find out how my family was. I had heard that there had been airstrikes in Aleppo the past few days – I was so relieved to hear their voices – I couldn’t hold back my tears. I was so worried. Here, so many people have lost their loved ones. Thank you to your organisation for its help.”
Mahmoud, 28 Y.O., from Damascus, Syria
“I was able to speak to my mother for the first time in over 1 month. I was able to hear her voice. My mother does not own a mobile phone so getting in touch with her was difficult. Despite not having spoken with her, she knew I would be in Idomeni, but did not expect the living conditions to be so bad. I didn’t want to tell her everything because she had already broken down in tears. I hope that one day we will be able to live together in Europe.”
Ezma, 30 Y.O., Mosul, Iraqi Kurdistan
“It is important for us to be able to speak with our loved ones. I was able to talk with my sister who lives in Germany. We are sad to be living apart. She has heard about the conditions in Idomeni and is very worried about us. Our living conditions are extremely difficult here. Speaking to her was very emotional. She is going to try to help us by sending us money because after the call, she realised that we really had nothing here.”
Mahmoud, 40 Y.O., from Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan
“I have been living in Idomeni for 2 months with my wife and my 3 children. Here, we try to survive on a day-to-day basis. The conditions are awful and I need to speak to my mother and my in-laws who are still back home. This helps me. The situation tears me apart – each day we hear that their town is being bombed and we are extremely worried about them. As for us, our situation has not improved here in Europe – we have been stranded here for 2 months. Our family has lent us a lot of money to help us reach Europe. They have lost everything. I hope we will be able to pay them back one day. But thanks to this call, we have been able to have 5 minutes of respite and being able to exchange and speak from the heart has done us a lot of good.”
