Education

In times of crisis and conflict, access to education is a priority, and yet the lack of available resources and local capacity deprives populations of this fundamental aspect of life.

Many children are injured. Many have witnessed things a child should never have to see. Many have seen their homes destroyed, and their families and communities uprooted. The continuation of education is essential for children’s reconstruction.

Technology to the service of education

At TSF, we are dedicated to underpinning local educational structures in order to assist them in providing quality schooling, thus helping to reduce the impact of humanitarian crises. Technology and access to internet allow children to get their hands on the necessary educational resources to open them up to the rest of the world.

How do our education projects work?

Whether in the very heart of conflict zones or on the periphery of the affected countries, our goal is to complement educational programs by adapting to local contexts. Our projects are based on 3 guiding principles:

  • Establishing supportive learning conditions;
  • Leveraging the use of digital educational resources;
  • Placing each child at the centre of their journey.

To address the most vulnerable, it is not only necessary to take into account the possible psychological difficulties encountered by children, but also the disparities of levels of ability. With the guidance of education professionals, we create a benevolent learning environment that respects the rhythm of each child, fostering the pleasure of learning and positive interactions through group work.

Each mLearning project is conducted by local facilitators trained by TSF to create comforting learning conditions, where the child feels guided and accompanied. The proposed activities invite children to be at the centre of their schooling and value their individual achievements, so that each of them becomes aware of progress and particular centres of interest. This method also allows the facilitator and others to have a more accurate follow-up of each child.

For each subject, progress referentials are created for the topics identified as priority. The referential marks the path on which each child can move at their own pace, guided by TSF’s facilitators. Different approaches are available for each subject, so that children can learn from different channels by manipulating, listening and seeing.

Digital tools provide access to many varied educational resources such as online and offline courses and exercises, videos and applications. They also provide an interactive component for both facilitators and children: quizzes, mind maps, explanatory videos. This complementary approach leads the child towards creativity, and facilitates the process of comprehension and memorisation.

More recreational activities are also offered as well as awareness sessions on various topics related to local issues (such as hygiene, health, women’s rights).

In such emergency contexts, our objective is to promote the continuity of learning in a safe, fulfilling and fun space thanks to the daily support provided by teachers and the advantages that new technologies bring to learning. Through these initiatives, we aim to bring psycho-social support to the often traumatised children and provide an environment that fosters their potential for the future and encourages participation in the reconstruction of peace.
